Edward Munch

Edvard Munch, the brilliant World famous Norwegian Artist. He is most famous for his painting the Scream. The painting is of course open for interpretation, the scene is the Oslo fjords by the seaside , the person screams with anxiety while one couple in the background ignores the man. why is the man screaming  ? I think that is open for discussion, the nature is so beautiful he gets scared? the vast emptyness fills him with anxiety? he has mental health issues and nobody cares?I have been working professionally in the Norwegian mental health industry for several years and the later interpretation makes most sense for me.

When I went to the Edward Munch Museum in Oslo recently , a small draving hidden in a corner from Edward Munch caught my attention, a rich man giving handouts , I was very uninterested in the beginning, while looking what is so special about that I thought. what I thought was fascinating was Edward Munch had written a text under the picture it says ” The rich man who gives steals two times ,first he has stolen the money then he steals people’s heart’s”. For the first time I was excited during my museum tour , it was fascinating to have a insight to Edward Munch thinking. it reminded me of all these famous fake philanthropist during recent times who are celebrated as heroes in the media at the same time they are on the top ten worlds richest list year after year increasing there wealth in billions every year.

The Norwegian government uses Billions of taxpayer money promoting Edward Munch why does one artwork from the same artist get so different attention and priority, who decides what is famous and valuable and what is not?

what do you think?

  1. I didn’t know much about Edward Munch except his painting “the scream” . It seems he had a deep social cognition.

  2. Edvard Munch’s art sparks reflections on fame, societal values, and the complexities within art itself.

  3. Your unique perspective as a mental health professional brings a fresh and meaningful interpretation to Edvard Munch’s “The Scream.”

It’s fascinating how you connect the themes of the painting to broader issues of mental health and societal indifference.

  4. “What is art? Art grows from joy and sorrow, but mostly from sorrow. It grows from human lives.” Edward Munch a valuable and special character.

  5. Wonderful and insightful take on your Museum visit, article is much appreciated.

I find your mental health take on “Scream” very interesting, with experience from the mental health sector I see the resembles you refer to. Furthermore the “rich stealing twice”, makes me reflect on political campaigns in particular, rich politicians with handouts and big promises to the poor. Make me think maybe, just maybe if you didn`t steal, these poor would not be this poor???

  6. Makes me want to go to the museum for personal experience😁 Must be interesting since er have been working with mental disorders😁

  7. Some people call him a mad man i belive all greatest artist Are called mad but he was not . He only gave facts on his surrounding after dining and wining with the High oligarch status persons . What he said in todays world can be seen in politicians and leaders . A good example can be trump or all billionaire who give out to charity to exempt tax cut back which goes back to them twice the fold .

  8. I really want to see that art. He’s amazing artist. If ı go to Oslo, ı will visit museum. Thanks for blog.
